Creating a meditation or sacred space in your home will help to foster a relationship with your higher self, as well as, create a sense of clarity and peace in your life. You do not need anything fancy- just need a little imagination and a designated area.

I teamed up with my friends at my favorite store, Muddy Roots, in Murphysboro, Illinois to demonstrate how you can integrate some beautiful plants into a small sacred/meditative space in your home.

The ladies at Muddy Roots explain that "Adding plants to your meditation space is ideal as they naturally promote a sense of tranquility and reduce stress. Bringing nature inside, especially in the winter months can give you such a mood boost. The also help eliminate air pollution and naturally add oxygen to your space. All of which add to your overall well being."

Plants have been a part of spiritual practice for a very long time in many ways. Plants vibrate and radiate an energy that is uplifting to our own. Yogis have stood with their backs against trees to ground themselves, plants are used in the ancient Chinese practice of feng shui, and Buddha was seated under the Bodhi Tree when he achieved enlightenment. It just seems natural that we should bring nature into our own meditative/sacred space.

This beautiful plant is the Maranta leuconeura, also known as, the Prayer Plant. It is Native to the tropical forests of Brazil. The leaves of this plant fold in the evenings, as if in prayer, this is how it received its name.

Monstera adansonii, the Swiss Cheese Plant is wide spread across South and Central America. It is relatively easy to take care of and is defiantly eye catching.

The Air Plant, or Tillandsia xerographica, is never placed in soil. It needs bright, filtered light. If you are growing them indoors and the air is dry, you will need to submerge the plant in water for 2-3 hours about every two weeks.

A beautiful crystal or stone is essential to your meditation space. Pictured above is a gorgeous Moss Agate from our friends at Makai Crystal Shop in Energy, Illinois. Our friends at Makai tell us that "Moss Agate vibrates in frequency with the heart chakra, and true to its name, helps us with matters of emotional growth. It helps us retain emotional stability rooting us in the energy of the earth and helping us draw strength from the natural world around us. Perfect for usage in a sacred space as it helps us process our emotions; so we may work through our path from a calm, centered place."
Creating a meditation or sacred space that is separate from the living space in your home will help you to disconnect from the distractions around you and get into a relaxed meditative state, to connect, in the way you desire. Feel free to reach out to any of us for help and direction in creating this space for yourself, we would love to help!
